PTLLS 

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector  

This qualification is an introductory qualification for all new teachers. From September 2007 all new teachers must gain a Licence to Practice from the Institute of Learning at the start of their career. This qualification provides a basic minimum standard for all those entering the profession. The qualification involves initial assessment of literacy, numeracy and ICT needs, 60 hours of learning in total, observed practice and confers threshold status to teach upon successful completion.

The programme covers the following aspects of teacher training: 

• planning a teaching session and creating a scheme of work
• the role of the tutor
• the training cycle
• meeting individual learner needs
• teaching and learning methods
• assessment methods
• evaluation strategies

 

 

 

 

 

Certificate in Coaching

&

 Certificate in Mentoring

These qualifications are suitable for those who support, review progress and advise individual learners by coaching or mentoring in the workplace.

  These qualifications cover the following elements: 

  • Evaluate and develop own practice

  • Support learners by mentoring in the workplace

  • Support and advise individual learners

  • Monitor and review progress with learners

  • Enable individual learning through coaching
